Qatar Witnesses a Surge in Inbound Visitors in July

Doha, Qatar – Recent data indicates that July 2023 saw a remarkable uptick in the number of inbound tourists, touching nearly 288,000. This figure represents a monthly growth of 2.1 percent from June 2023 and a staggering year-on-year increase of 91.4 percent since July 2022.

The “Qatar: Monthly Statistics” bulletin, published by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), has stated that a significant 47 percent of these visitors were from neighboring GCC countries. In terms of entry points, air travel continues to dominate, accounting for 58 percent of the total arrivals.

July also observed other interesting shifts. Maritime activity in Qatar showed a monthly average increase of 5.1 percent in ship arrivals, and the net tonnage of ships rose by 3.7 percent.

On the economic front, the Total Broad Money Supply (M2) stood at about 684 Billion Qatari Riyals, marking a modest annual ascent of 1.3 percent. Conversely, the cash equivalents, inclusive of Commercial Bank Deposits, were around 928 Billion Qatari Riyals, reflecting a decline of 3.8 percent from July 2022’s 965 Billion Qatari Riyals.

In transport, there were 5,657 new vehicle registrations in July 2023. This is a 14.2 percent drop from the previous month and a 2.9 percent reduction year-on-year.

Road safety statistics for July 2023 reveal 595 traffic incidents, excluding non-injury accidents. This is a decline of both 3.9 percent monthly and 14.3 percent annually. Light injuries dominated these incidents at 93 percent, but tragically, there were 13 fatalities.

Energy consumption patterns changed too. The electricity generated and consumed saw an increase of 9.7 percent and 10 percent monthly, respectively.

Qatar’s demographic data indicates a gentle rise in population from 2.658 million in July 2022 to 2.704 million by June 2023. However, a slight dip of 1.8 percent was noticed from June to July 2023.

Vital statistics for June 2023 registered 2,211 live births, a 2.4 percent decline from the previous month, and 218 deaths, a surge of 17.2 percent from June.

The Social Security metrics for July 2023 stood at 81 Million Qatari Riyals, benefiting 14,515 recipients. This is a growth of 2.4 percent in value and 0.7 percent in beneficiary numbers from the previous month.

In the construction sector, 634 building permits were issued in July 2023, marking a slight monthly decline of 1.1 percent, yet reflecting a commendable annual growth of 15.3 percent.
